Öhlins Motorcycle Suspension
Öhlins is a Swedish suspension maker. Kenth Öhlin founded it in 1976, it is based in Upplands Väsby, and it has been part of Brembo Group since 2025. Iron City Motorcycles is a UK motorcycle dealership and an official Öhlins stockist, and this page carries the Öhlins range we list: rear shock absorbers, fork cartridge kits, fork springs, shock springs, steering dampers and fork oil.
Öhlins says each of its motorcycle products is developed for a particular model, and that it makes more than 300 shock absorber models, each tailor-made for one specific bike. So almost every listing here is bike-specific: the title names the make and models it fits, and the Fitment section on the listing gives the years. The exceptions are the universal steering dampers and the fork oil. Browse by type, by Öhlins line or by make, from Harley-Davidson Touring, Softail, Sportster and Dyna to Yamaha, Honda, KTM, Kawasaki, Husqvarna, GasGas, Ducati, BMW, Suzuki, Triumph, Aprilia and Vespa. Some parts, such as the Öhlins TTX Flow shocks, are motocross and enduro parts, and Öhlins' own shop marks the ones we checked, such as the DMX 0214, "Motorsport product, not for use on public roads"; their line pages say so.
What each type of Öhlins part does
Ohlins, written Öhlins by the company itself, makes shock absorbers, front forks, fork springs, cartridge kits and steering dampers, and the fork oil that goes with them. This is what each type on this page is for.
- Öhlins shock absorbers replace the rear shock, or the pair of twin shocks. Öhlins describes a shock as the buffer between the road and the motorcycle, absorbing impacts and controlling the movement of the suspension. Every Öhlins shock with a spring has adjustable spring preload.
- Öhlins fork cartridge kits replace the damping internals of your standard front forks, so the original fork legs stay on the bike.
- Öhlins fork springs go inside the front fork legs: some replace the springs in the standard fork, and others are spring kits made for Öhlins cartridge kits such as the NIX 30 Street. Öhlins calls a fork spring change one of the most cost-effective ways to improve a front fork.
- Öhlins shock springs change the spring rate on an Öhlins rear shock, to suit rider weight and preference.
- Öhlins steering dampers damp oscillations to minimise unwanted handlebar movement, with adjustable damping.
- Öhlins fork oil comes in several viscosities, and each Öhlins product's details name the oil it needs.
The Öhlins lines
The line name in each title tells you which Öhlins damping design the part uses. Öhlins STX is a high-pressure monotube shock, first developed for motocross. Öhlins TTX is a twin-tube design that keeps compression and rebound damping separate, so each is adjusted on its own. Öhlins NIX cartridge kits put compression damping in the left fork leg and rebound in the right.
- Öhlins STX 46: monotube shocks with a 46 mm piston, almost all rear shocks, in Street and Adventure versions.
- Öhlins STX 36: mostly twin shocks for Harley-Davidson, plus scooter shocks for Vespa and others.
- Öhlins Blackline: the Blackline design versions of Öhlins STX 36 twin shocks for Harley-Davidson and a front shock for the Vespa GTS, and Blackline steering dampers.
- Öhlins TTX 36: twin-tube rear shocks for sport and supersport bikes.
- Öhlins TTX Flow: twin-tube shocks for motocross and enduro bikes; Öhlins' shop marks the ones we checked, such as the DMX 0214, as motorsport products, not for use on public roads.
- Öhlins TTX 25: FKR racing cartridge kits, also marked by Öhlins as motorsport products.
- Öhlins NIX 30 and Öhlins NIX 22: cartridge kits with the adjusters on the top caps. Öhlins says NIX 22 brings the design to bikes with conventional forks.
- Öhlins FKS Street: the street cartridge kits, part numbers starting FKS, in NIX 30 and NIX 22 versions.
- Öhlins SD20: the steering damper Öhlins launched for street and supersport motorcycles, in universal and bike-specific versions.
- Öhlins Road & Track: Road & Track fork springs and the Road & Track front fork fluid, part 01309.

Will Öhlins suspension fit my bike?
Almost every Öhlins part here is made for specific models. The title names the make and models, and the Fitment section on the listing gives the exact models and years; check yours before ordering. Universal steering dampers are not tied to a model: Öhlins sells them in different strokes with mounting kits for individual applications.
How do I choose the right spring rate?
Öhlins says spring rates should suit rider weight and preference, and it gives its recommendations in the mounting instructions for each cartridge kit and shock. Many of our fork spring and shock spring titles state the rate in N/mm.
How often does Öhlins suspension need a service?
It depends on the product, and each Öhlins owner's manual gives the intervals. As one example, the manual for the Öhlins 30 mm Road & Track front fork cartridge kit gives an inspection once a year or every 5,000 km, and a service every third year or every 30,000 km in normal use, at an authorised Öhlins service centre.
Can I fit Öhlins parts myself?
Öhlins says it does not offer technical support to end users, and strongly recommends having a cartridge kit installed by a professional motorcycle or suspension workshop. Its Road & Track cartridge kit manual sends servicing to an authorised Öhlins service centre.
What is the difference between Öhlins STX and Öhlins TTX?
Öhlins STX is a high-pressure monotube design: on most versions a shaft adjuster mainly sets rebound damping, and more advanced models add a separate compression adjuster. Öhlins TTX is a twin-tube design that regulates the oil flow through the compression and rebound valves separately, so the two are adjusted individually.
