Öhlins STX 46 Shocks
The Öhlins STX 46 is a motorcycle shock absorber with a monotube design and a large 46 mm piston, mostly rear shocks for road and adventure bikes. Öhlins sells it in Street and Adventure versions. Each one here is made for specific models, named in the title: Yamaha, BMW and Honda have the most, then Harley-Davidson, KTM, Husqvarna, Ducati and others. Two are front shocks, for the BMW R 1200 GS.
How the Öhlins STX works
Öhlins STX is the company's high-pressure monotube shock, originally developed for motocross riders. The oil sits under gas pressure, kept apart from the gas by a dividing piston, which Öhlins says prevents cavitation. Most Öhlins STX shocks have a shaft adjuster that mainly sets rebound damping, and more advanced models add a separate compression adjuster. Every Öhlins shock with a spring has adjustable spring preload.

The specification differs by part number. Some Öhlins STX 46 shocks have an internal gas reservoir and a preload tool; others have an external piggyback reservoir, a compression adjuster and a hydraulic preload adjuster. The listing gives the part number to check. Examples:
