Every case and saddlebag on this page is SW-Motech's, and it splits by construction rather than by price: aluminium and ABS hard cases that lock onto a carrier, and soft bags built around a steel-tube quick-release base. Legend Gear and PRO Blaze H cover most of the soft side; TRAX ADV, Dusc, Aero ABS and Urban ABS cover the hard cases, and a run of Sysbag WP roll-top inner bags mount into a hard adapter plate rather than a carrier directly. Which one suits a particular bike has less to do with budget than with what each range was actually built to do.

Built for different jobs, not just different budgets

SW-Motech's own account of its hard-case range reads like a decision tree. TRAX ADV is the toughest of the four, built from 1.5mm robot-welded aluminium with reinforced corners for touring rather than a daily commute. Dusc takes a different route to a similar destination: an aluminium frame carrying an ABS-plastic shell, and the L size does something none of the others do — at 41 litres and 4.1kg empty, it can be run as either a side case or a top case on the same bike. Aero ABS trims weight for a sportier ride, sold as a matched pair at 25 litres a side. Urban ABS sits at the other end of the range: SW-Motech builds it for short-tailed naked and retro bikes rather than tourers, and on every fitment we checked it is sold as a symmetric pair at 16.5 litres a side — the one hard-case range on this page that doesn't split unevenly left to right. That last point turns out to matter, because almost nothing else on this shelf splits evenly.

Two sides, rarely the same size

Look down this shelf and the assumption that side cases come in matched pairs breaks down fast. Seventy-four of our eighty-three PRO Blaze H saddlebag sets carry that H for a specific reason: SW-Motech's own listing says the H variant is built for motorcycles with a high-mounted original exhaust. Legend Gear does the same job with two different bags rather than one shape. The smaller bag in the pair, LC1, holds roughly 9.8 litres and is specifically noted by SW-Motech as suited to bikes with a top-mounted exhaust because of its compact shape; the larger LC2, at 13.5 litres, carries no such note and is sold for the side that doesn't need to clear anything. Buy the matched pair and you end up with a smaller bag on one side and a larger one on the other, by design, not by mistake.

TRAX ADV case systems go further still. Most of the per-bike TRAX ADV systems SW-Motech publishes are sold as mismatched pairs — 45 litres one side, 37 the other, is the common split — with a minority of fitments sold matched instead, sometimes for the same base model depending on the exact variant. Our own 45 litre TRAX ADV left case is blunt about it in its own listing: it is the model for the left side of the motorcycle, not a mirrored copy of the right, and this shelf carries left- and right-specific spare corners as separate parts for the same reason. Check the litres quoted against your own bike before ordering rather than assuming both sides match.

None of this is a manufacturing shortcut. A seller of a comparable set of cases, not SW-Motech's own, put the underlying logic plainly: keep the exhaust-side case narrower than the other and the whole bike ends up no wider than its own handlebars, which makes a real difference filtering through traffic. It is the same reasoning SW-Motech applies to PRO Blaze H and the Legend Gear LC1 — a smaller case on the exhaust side is a fit decision with a practical payoff, not an afterthought.

Buying one side, not the pair

Twenty-seven of the titles on this page say Left and twenty say Right — sides are sold individually here, not only as matched pairs. That is useful if a case gets damaged, a lock or a lid goes missing, or you already own one side and need to match it. TRAX ADV spare corners, lid stops and inlays follow the same pattern, down to separate left and right corner sets, so a knock does not have to mean replacing the whole case.

What a lock on a hard case actually does

On TRAX ADV and Dusc, locking the case does two things in one turn: it closes the lid, and it stops the case being lifted straight off the carrier. SW-Motech builds the lock to fasten both the case opening and the carrier connection together, not just the lid. Soft luggage does not have that second part — Legend Gear and PRO Blaze H close with a roll-top or a zip and a strap, not a key. Riders discussing hard versus soft luggage online treat a locked case as a deterrent against a casual look rather than anything that makes the contents theft-proof; one rider described fitting a lockable case onto the bike specifically for stops where he wanted to leave a helmet and coat inside, rather than trusting soft throwovers with the same job. A lock buys you time and effort on someone else's part. It does not buy certainty.

Buying from us

SW-Motech does not publish a blanket weight limit for a case the way it sometimes does for a carrier; where a load figure exists, it comes from the case's own fitting instructions rather than a headline number, so treat any figure quoted elsewhere with caution. Every case, saddlebag and spare part on this page is for sale with at least 10% off RRP, and free UK delivery available, whether you are ordering the full Legend Gear pair or just the one side you actually need. For the carrier it bolts to, the lock, or the rest of the SW-Motech system, that is the page to start from; this one is about the case itself.
