Bar, pad or full kit?
Check the exact wording before you order. Some listings here are a backrest kit, bar and pad together, ready to bolt on: 52300446, 52300456 and 52300448 are all sold that way. Others are the upright on its own, with no pad included, either for building your own look or replacing just the bar on a kit you already own: 52300434, 52300442 and 52300020 are bars alone. If a listing doesn't say kit, price it as a bar and budget for a pad separately.
Two mounting systems, and they don't share hardware
Softail and Dyna models generally use what Harley calls HoldFast, a quick-attach mount fitted to the frame. Touring bikes, Road King, Street Glide and Electra Glide among them, use a different system called H-D Detachables, built around a docking plate, not a clip. A bar made for one will not go on the other, whatever the height or finish looks like in the photo. "Dyna" and "Softail" aren't single fitment buckets either. The Fat Bob was a Dyna up to 2017 and a Softail from 2018, so on that bike the year matters more than the model name, and we'll confirm it against yours before an order goes through. Sportster and V-Rod (VRSC) uprights are a third case again, and neither shows up as its own fitment tag on this page, so check the part number against your model, or ask, rather than trusting the fitment filter alone for those two.
Racks and bags need a bar fitted first
The luggage racks on this page are all built for the HoldFast bar specifically, not the H-D Detachables system Touring bikes use. The titles say so directly: 50300130B and 50300131B are both titled "for HoldFast Sissy Bar Uprights". Buy the rack on its own and you've bought half a job, because it needs the matching bar already on the bike. The sissy bar bag (93300120) works the same way. It clips onto an upright. It doesn't replace one.
Short, standard or tall is a fit decision too
The same fitment often comes in more than one height. 52300446 and 52300448 both fit Heritage and Street Bob models: 52300446 is standard height, 52300448 is short. That isn't a style-only choice. A shorter bar sits closer to the seat and suits someone who mostly rides solo with a passenger along now and again. A taller one gives a passenger more to lean back on over distance, and more height behind it for a rack. Match it to how the bike actually gets used, then pick the finish.
Before you order
A detachable bar is only as good as the joint it locks into. Worth a check with a spanner after the first few hundred miles, especially once a rack and a loaded bag are hanging off it. Vibration working bolts loose is a real enough problem that at least one aftermarket seller now lists threadlock as standard fitting advice, alongside the same complaint on the forums. Cheap imported bars have their own separate problem: UK buyers reporting mismatched left and right brackets straight out of the box.
