What's actually on this page

Most of the 200-plus products here are not bags in the way a customer means the word. Harley's own part descriptions use "S-BAG" as shorthand for saddlebag, so a search on "bag" pulls in every guard, latch, docking bracket and liner that fits near one, alongside the actual bags. That's not a tidy range. We're not going to pretend it is. A handful of complete saddlebags sit on this shelf too, and they already have a page of their own: see our Harley-Davidson saddlebags if a whole bag is what you're after. This page is for the hardware that goes with one, the audio built into the lids, and the bag types that don't live anywhere else — tank bags, handlebar bags, windshield bags, swingarm bags, sissy-bar bags and the Onyx and Overwatch soft-luggage range.

Buying the hardware without the bag

Guards, docking brackets and latch parts are matched to the mounting system already on the bike, not to the bag on the box. A dock built for Touring's system won't take a Softail-fitted bag, and a guard rail cut for one saddlebag shape won't sit right on another. Overwatch Quick-Release Saddlebags (90202332) fit current Low Rider and Street Bob models, and Harley's own fitting notes for that kit call for a turn signal relocation kit on most of those bikes, plus a number plate relocation on FXBB, FXBBS and FLSL models. It's a real extra job. Most buyers don't find out about it until the bag is already on the bench. The lower docking bracket (90201525) and the guard rails (90201903) are both listed separately from any bag they mount to, so check what a listing actually includes before ordering.

What goes wrong without the right support

A saddlebag needs guard rails or support brackets under it, or it rubs against the tyre or the rear shock as the suspension moves. Riders report exactly that wear pattern on throw-over and detachable bags fitted without them. The bag takes the blame. The missing bracket is the actual cause. A sissy-bar bag has the opposite problem. Without something rigid underneath, a tall bag sags down the bar and can start covering the number plate, and at speed the wind gets under it and lifts it if it's only clipped on rather than strapped down too. A tank bag brings its own issue on a cruiser tank: the ignition switch and the speedo sit where a bike with the tank further forward would have clear space, so a bag sized for a different kind of motorcycle can sit over the switch or mark the paint under a magnetic base.

Everything on this page is a genuine Harley-Davidson part, sold by an authorised dealer, for sale at 10% off RRP with free UK delivery available, whether you're replacing a single latch or fitting a full soft-luggage set to a bike that's never carried any before. Check the docking system or bar mount your bike actually uses on the Parts Finder, or see the rest of what's genuine for your model in Harley-Davidson parts.
